Note that you can choose if the door handle should be delivered with metal disks for attachment with ordinary wood screws (for old original doors) or through-bolts to fit modern doors with 40 mm hole. Screw type is selected in the drop-down list to the right.

An alternative and perhaps more aesthetically pleasing way to mount the handle and any escutcheon on a modern door is to first mount wood cover plugs on both sides of the door's 40 mm hole. Use plain wood glue on the sides of the cover / plug. To facilitate attachment, predrill the cover plates before mounting the rosettes and key plates. Once this is done you can then attach a handle and any escutcheon with standard wood screws.
