Different kinds of door stops
Door stops can come in several different shapes and have different functions - to keep the door open or to prevent damage to the wall behind the door.
Ever since the first door was created, we have used different objects to keep it open. Heavy rocks, bricks, metal cans or wooden stools have been historically used to prevent the door from closing. Strangely, it lasted until 1878 before a person actually got honor for the invetion. There is not much known about the inventor named Mr Dorsy except that he received a patent on the door stop December 10 1878, that also became his most famous invention.
After Dorsey patented his door stop, many others have invented variants and today there are different types of stops that can be mounted in the floor, wall or on the door itself. The protective door stops we have in our range are made of untreated or nickel-plated brass, which fits perfectly in older environments. Door stops to hold the door needs some weight, which makes the durable and classic cast iron an excellent material.
The most expensive doorstop in the world?
One of the most expensive door stops through the ages is probably found in Michigan where a man used to use a heavy stone to hold the door. The stone was included in the price when he bought the house and proved to be a very unusual meteorite that hit the earth near the Edmore ranch in the 1930s - today worth about 1 million SEK.
